RACE
to Karolinska Institutet

Project Summary

The RACE project includes the following major parts

  • A large cohort study including Danish and Swedish women diagnosed with breast cancer where we will study the risk of developing a cardio-vascular disorder up to 25 years after radiotherapy.
  • Development of methodology to estimate the absorbed heart doses after different types of radiotherapy.
  • A large nested case-control study, including approximately 1000 cases and a similar number of controls, within the cohort of women diagnosed with breast cancer. The aim is to define the dose-response relationship between cardiac dose and occurrence of cardiovascular disease. We will also try to identify factors that modify the effect of radiotherapy.
  • Dissemination of the results of the studies to regulatory bodies, medical and health physicists, and clinicians.
